Folklore Fashion for the Autumn Wardrobe

As the season begins to change and the weather shifts, many of us find ourselves clearing out our wardrobes and daydreaming about the cosy outfits we plan to wear through autumn.

At Celtic Fusion, we have been thinking about ways to bring a rustic, pagan-inspired look into autumn styling, using natural textures, practical layers, earthy colours, and pieces that feel like they belong in the turning season.

Tweed for Texture, Warmth, and Heritage

A frequent textile you will see in our autumn clothing is tweed. Tweed is special because it is a thick woven wool that helps keep body warmth in while protecting against harsh winds.

It is practical, but it also carries a significant history. Tweed has been used for centuries as a locally produced textile across the British Isles and Ireland, often connected to region, landscape, and place.

Traditionally, wool was dyed with plants from the surrounding area, meaning the colours themselves could reflect the land the cloth came from. It is a beautiful example of clothing shaped by nature.

Wool Layers for the Cold Months

Woven wool in general is a must for the colder months. Wool layers and blankets are perfect for wrapping up and staying warm, while still allowing for flexible layering as the temperature changes throughout the day.

For an even stronger fairytale feeling, a cape with a large warm hood can elevate an outfit in both style and practicality.

Long Skirts for Movement and Warmth

One of our autumn favourites at Celtic Fusion is a long, single-layer skirt. It is ideal for wearing with warm tights underneath without feeling too restricted.

It can feel like carrying a soft, toasty blanket with you through the day. And what better way to create a folklore mood than a misty forest walk with skirt and cape moving behind you?
